Nitish Kumar takes oath in Rajya Sabha, signalling leadership transition in Bihar.
April 10, 2026: Veteran leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha, marking a significant political shift in Bihar. Senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, attended the ceremony in New Delhi, highlighting its importance. Leaders praised Kumar’s contribution to Bihar’s development, calling his elevation a moment of pride for the state.
Ahead of this transition, Kumar resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30, paving the way for leadership changes. Nitin Nabin stated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is united on appointing the next Chief Minister. Alliance leaders emphasised that the process will remain smooth and coordinated, ensuring continuity in governance without internal disagreements.
A seasoned politician, Kumar began his career in 1985 and went on to become Bihar’s longest-serving Chief Minister, also serving as a Union Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. With government formation expected to begin after mid-April, the focus now shifts to who will take over as Bihar’s next Chief Minister, even as the NDA expresses confidence in a seamless transition.
