The National Testing Agency has rolled out extensive security, surveillance and verification measures for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination

June 21, 2026: More than 22 lakh candidates will appear for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) implementing extensive arrangements to ensure a fair and secure test. The re-exam follows the cancellation of the May 3 examination after allegations of a paper leak sparked protests, legal challenges and demands for accountability. According to the NTA, candidates will be allowed entry from 11 am until 1.30 pm, after which no entry will be permitted. Pens will be provided at centres, while facilities such as drinking water, ORS, ambulances and shaded waiting areas have been arranged for candidates and their families.

The examination will be conducted at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India and 14 overseas locations. The NTA said more than 95,000 examination rooms have been equipped with CCTV surveillance, supported by over 1.38 lakh cameras monitored at national, state and ministry levels. To prevent electronic malpractice, 51,311 jammers have been installed. Additional measures include wall clocks in every room, extra rough-work sheets and special arrangements for left-handed candidates. The examination duration has also been extended to account for verification procedures.

Security checks have been significantly strengthened, with nearly 39,000 frisking personnel and over 48,000 biometric verification staff deployed nationwide. Face authentication systems and biometric verification have been expanded to improve security while reducing waiting time. Each room will have two invigilators, and every centre will be supported by additional staff and technical officers monitoring CCTV systems. Around 6,700 observers and over 100 virtual observers will supervise proceedings, while AI-powered tools will analyse surveillance footage for suspicious activity. The NTA has also warned against rumours and fake paper leak claims, stating that social media platforms are being closely monitored to ensure the examination is conducted smoothly.
