Prison authorities organised a large-scale yoga session at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison
June 21, 2026: More than 4,000 inmates participated in a mass yoga session at Bengaluru’s Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, as part of the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations. The programme was organised under the supervision of prison authorities and witnessed participation from inmates across the women’s division, convict division, high-security division, Annex-1 block and undertrial sections.
Director General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, Alok Kumar, attended the event and highlighted the importance of yoga in improving physical fitness, mental well-being, self-confidence and discipline. According to prison officials, yoga, meditation and other wellness activities are regularly conducted inside the prison to support the rehabilitation and overall health of inmates.
This year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” focused on promoting active and healthy lifestyles across all age groups. Senior prison officials, staff members and representatives of the Art of Living participated in the event. UCO Bank distributed 1,500 yoga kits for inmates, while the Prison Ministry of India provided 120 yoga mats for women prisoners as part of the celebrations.
