The National Investigation Agency has filed a supplementary chargesheet against Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed

July 6, 2026: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a supplementary chargesheet against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed in connection with the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 25 tourists and a pony operator in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran meadow. The agency alleged that Saeed played a key role in the conspiracy both as an individual and as the head of LeT and its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF). According to the NIA, the chargesheet provides evidence linking Pakistan to the planning and execution of the attack through scientific investigation and on-ground findings.

The agency said Saeed has been charged under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), including offences related to terrorism and waging war against India. Investigators reiterated that the attack was planned and directed from Pakistan through LeT and TRF. The NIA also named three Pakistani terrorists involved in the assault and stated that digital evidence, including Pakistan-origin mobile phones and encrypted communications, established cross-border coordination by handler Sajid Saifullah Jatt.

According to the investigation, the terrorists received logistical support, weapons and shelter before carrying out the attack, with local accused allegedly assisting them. The agency said the attackers conducted religion-based targeted killings before fleeing the scene. The Pahalgam attack later prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir before a ceasefire was reached on May 10. The NIA said investigations are continuing to uncover the wider conspiracy behind the attack.
