Two masked assailants allegedly hurled a petrol bomb at BJP leader Dr Tarsem Garg’s clinic in Bathinda

June 23, 2026: A late-night petrol bomb attack on the clinic of BJP leader Dr Tarsem Garg in Punjab’s Bathinda has triggered a large-scale police investigation. According to preliminary findings, two masked individuals arrived at the premises, with one allegedly throwing a petrol-filled bottle into the clinic while the other recorded the incident on a mobile phone. The explosion-like sound caused panic in the area, though no injuries were reported.

Dr Garg, who was present at the time, told investigators that he had not received any threats and was unaware of any personal dispute that could have led to the attack. A former Aam Aadmi Party leader who later joined the BJP, Garg said he could not identify any immediate motive. Police are exploring all angles, including the possibility of political rivalry, while examining CCTV footage and other digital evidence to track down the suspects.

The investigation took a new turn after Garg’s family reportedly received a phone call from a person claiming to be Shahzad Bhatti and taking responsibility for the attack. Authorities are verifying the authenticity of the claim. The incident has heightened security concerns as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to visit Bathinda soon. Senior police officers have inspected the site, an FIR has been registered, and multiple teams have been deployed to identify those involved and determine the motive behind the attack.
