May 18, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Oslo on Monday to participate in the third India-Nordic Summit and hold bilateral discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Modi was received at the airport by his Norwegian counterpart and later welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora in the Norwegian capital.

During the visit, Modi was conferred the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, one of Norway’s highest honours under the order. The Prime Minister described India and Europe as entering a “golden era” in relations and highlighted the India-EFTA trade pact, which is expected to attract significant investment and generate employment opportunities in India over the next 15 years. Modi also thanked Norway for supporting India after the Pahalgam terror attack.

The India-Nordic Summit scheduled in Oslo will bring together leaders from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden to discuss cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, sustainability, digital innovation and emerging technologies. Officials said the summit would also focus on geopolitical challenges, climate issues and strengthening economic partnerships between India and Nordic nations.
