Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly remained at Delhi Airport until the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination began

June 21, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly delayed his departure from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday to avoid disrupting traffic ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. Officials said Modi arrived at the airport around 1:15 pm, just 45 minutes before the examination was scheduled to begin, and chose to remain there until 2 pm instead of immediately proceeding to his residence. The decision was aimed at preventing inconvenience to students travelling to exam centres during a crucial period.

Authorities noted that movement of the Prime Minister’s convoy generally involves extensive traffic management and temporary route restrictions. With thousands of NEET aspirants on Delhi’s roads before the examination, Modi reportedly preferred to wait at the airport rather than risk congestion along key routes. Once the examination commenced at 2 pm, he left for his residence.

More than 22 lakh candidates are appearing for the NEET-UG re-examination, which is being conducted under strict security measures following the cancellation of the earlier test over alleged irregularities. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has deployed over 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras, AI-based monitoring systems, more than 51,000 signal jammers, biometric verification teams and observers. Candidates have also been given an extended exam duration of 195 minutes and additional rough-work sheets to support the revised examination process.
