Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie to strengthen bilateral ties

June 28, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held bilateral talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during his three-day State Visit to the East African island nation. The meeting focused on strengthening the long-standing partnership between India and Seychelles. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri attended the talks. Earlier in the day, PM Modi received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the State House before the formal discussions.

The Prime Minister, who arrived in Victoria on Saturday, was welcomed personally by President Herminie, cabinet ministers, and senior officials in a special reception that highlighted the close ties between the two countries. His visit coincides with Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, where he will attend as the Guest of Honour. During his stay, Modi also visited the Seychelles National Botanical Garden as part of his cultural and environmental engagements.

In a major boost to bilateral cooperation, India handed over a Made-in-India Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR, along with six ambulances, ten utility vehicles, and five laser-radial boats to Seychelles. The patrol vessel, built by Goa Shipyard Limited, is expected to strengthen Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol capabilities. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the initiative reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two countries and India’s commitment to maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
