In his Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to stay hydrated during extreme heat
May 31, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to people across the country to take precautions amid rising temperatures and heatwave conditions. Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi advised citizens to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, and follow heat-related guidelines issued by government departments. He stressed that drinking sufficient water is essential to remain safe during extreme weather.
The Prime Minister noted that several parts of India are experiencing intense heat and urged people to exercise caution whenever they step outdoors. He reiterated a similar appeal he had made earlier in the week, highlighting the importance of hydration and preventive measures to reduce health risks associated with high temperatures.
During the broadcast, Modi also spoke about India’s diverse mango varieties, describing mangoes as an integral part of the summer season. He mentioned popular varieties such as Alphonso, Kesar, Dussehri, Langra, Chausa, Malda, Banganapalli, Totapuri, Himsagar, and Suvarnarekha, noting that each region has its own unique flavour and aroma. He said the popularity of Indian mangoes is now extending from local villages to global markets.
