Prime Minister highlights infrastructure growth in Uttar Pradesh while accusing previous governments of poor law and order
April 29, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticised the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress, saying Uttar Pradesh has transformed from a state known for poor roads and crime into one leading in infrastructure. Speaking at the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, he said the state now has the highest number of expressways and 21 airports, including five international ones.
Modi alleged that previous governments had given Uttar Pradesh an image of “jungle raj” and high crime, adding that films were once made on the state’s mafia culture. He claimed that law and order has now improved significantly and is being cited as a model across the country. Emphasising the state’s cultural identity, he said Uttar Pradesh is the land of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna but was previously misrepresented due to governance failures.
Referring to global instability amid ongoing conflicts, Modi said India continues to progress steadily despite challenges. He called for strengthening the vision of self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and highlighted modern infrastructure as a key driver of growth. The ₹36,230 crore Ganga Expressway, he said, marks another major step in development, even as political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
