PM links women’s quota push with development projects and new rail connectivity

April 28, 2026: Narendra Modi on Tuesday appealed for public support to implement women’s reservation in Parliament and state assemblies, calling it a crucial national goal. Speaking in Varanasi, he said he had come to seek the blessings of “sisters and daughters” to advance the proposal. His remarks come after recent attempts to move the measure forward in Parliament did not succeed, with the government blaming opposition resistance, including from the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress.

Reaffirming his commitment, Modi said the push for women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures remains a priority, promising continued efforts despite setbacks. Alongside the political message, he highlighted multiple development projects launched in Varanasi, describing the occasion as a blend of “Nari Shakti Vandan” and growth-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure and regional progress.

The Prime Minister also flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains — connecting Banaras to Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus). These routes are expected to boost connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra while improving access to key pilgrimage sites such as Shri Ram Mandir Teerth Kshetra and Kashi Vishwanath Dham. Modi said enhanced rail links would strengthen cultural ties, tourism, and economic integration across regions.
