Court relief for accused wife as probe in high-profile honeymoon murder continues

April 28, 2026: A court in Meghalaya has granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is accused of killing her husband during their honeymoon in 2025. According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, legal procedures are ongoing and the investigation will continue as per law. Sonam was arrested along with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three others for allegedly planning the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.

The couple had travelled to Shillong and nearby Sohra for their honeymoon in May 2025 before going missing. After days of search, Raja’s body was recovered from a gorge, while Sonam later surrendered in Ghazipur. Investigators allege that she, along with her associates, orchestrated the murder. A detailed chargesheet has been filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, naming Sonam, Kushwaha, and three alleged hired attackers.

Police investigations suggest the crime may have stemmed from personal tensions, as Sonam’s family had arranged her marriage despite her reported relationship with Kushwaha. Authorities claim she had warned of consequences before the wedding. The case, which triggered widespread attention, remains under judicial scrutiny, with all accused still facing serious charges as further proceedings continue.
