The sudden passing of Prateek Yadav, the 38-year-old son of late Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh’s political circles.
New details emerging on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, suggest that the fitness enthusiast and businessman had been struggling with chronic health complications for an extended period. Sources close to the family indicated that Prateek had been hospitalized multiple times in recent months due to severe lung and liver-related issues, which had significantly weakened his condition.
Prateek, the half-brother of SP President Akhilesh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav, was declared dead upon arrival at Lucknow’s Civil Hospital early this morning. According to Hospital Director GP Gupta, a medical team was dispatched to his residence at 5:30 AM following an urgent plea from his driver, but Prateek showed no signs of life when help arrived. While initial social media speculation hinted at “suspected poisoning,” Director Gupta categorically dismissed these rumors, stating that the hospital never made such a claim and that the precise cause of death will only be determined by the forensic report.
Akhilesh Yadav Pays Tribute
In a show of family solidarity, Akhilesh Yadav visited the KGMU mortuary while the postmortem was being conducted. A panel of doctors performed the procedure under strict videography surveillance and heavy police deployment to ensure transparency. Speaking to the media, a somber Akhilesh described his younger brother as a “good person” who preferred to stay away from the political fray, focusing entirely on his business ventures. Other family members, including SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, expressed their profound grief on social media, calling the untimely demise “extremely sad.”
Police Await Forensic Findings; Body Moved to Aparna Yadav’s Residence
The Lucknow Police are currently maintaining a vigil at the family residence. DCP Central Vikrant Veer confirmed that while an investigation is standard procedure, the police have not yet seized Prateek’s phone or laptop, as there is currently no evidence of foul play. “Any further legal action will depend strictly on the findings of the postmortem report,” Veer noted. As of Wednesday afternoon, the body is being handed over to the family and will be taken to Aparna Yadav’s residence in Lucknow for final darshan before being transported to Saifai for the last rites.
