Vijay set for oath ceremony in Chennai as numbers fall short in Assembly.

May 6, 2026: Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, is set to be sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, but has been directed to prove his majority in the Assembly within two days. With 108 MLAs, the party falls short of the 118-seat mark, making support from allies essential to secure power.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony, according to Praveen Chakravarthy. The oath-taking event is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai at 11:30 AM.

The upcoming floor test will be crucial for the new government, as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam looks to gather support from parties like Indian National Congress and other regional allies to cross the majority threshold.
