Bharatiya Janata Party weighs options as swearing-in in West Bengal nears.

May 6, 2026: With the Bharatiya Janata Party set to form the government in West Bengal, the focus has now shifted to who will be the next Chief Minister. While the party has not officially announced its choice, three key leaders have emerged as frontrunners—Suvendu Adhikari, Agnimitra Paul, and Samik Bhattacharya.

Suvendu Adhikari is seen as a strong contender due to his mass appeal and aggressive campaign strategy. A former Trinamool Congress leader, he played a major role in mobilising support against the ruling establishment. Meanwhile, Agnimitra Paul has gained prominence as a vocal and dynamic face of the party, particularly among women and youth voters.

The third name in contention, Samik Bhattacharya, is known for his organisational strength and deep-rooted association with the party structure. As the state BJP president, he has been instrumental in strengthening the cadre base and managing campaign strategies.
