Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of ignoring students’ concerns over CBSE’s On-Screen Marking system
May 25, 2026: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday criticised the Centre over the controversy surrounding CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, alleging that the government was ignoring students’ concerns and suppressing dissent. In a social media post, Gandhi accused the Modi government of branding questioning voices as “anti-national” and claimed that institutions were being turned into “symbols of rigging.” He also targeted Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the ongoing criticism linked to CBSE evaluation issues and the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
The row erupted after several students and parents raised complaints regarding discrepancies in the Class 12 board examination evaluation process. Allegations included unclear scanned copies of answer sheets, calculation mistakes, and responses that students claimed were left unchecked. A student named Vedant alleged on social media that the Physics answer sheet uploaded by CBSE under his name did not belong to him. The complaints triggered widespread demands for re-evaluation and greater transparency in the digital assessment process.
While criticism mounted online, CBSE and education ministry officials defended the technology-driven evaluation system, saying it ensured greater objectivity and transparency. Department of School Education and Literacy Secretary Sanjay Kumar stated that result fluctuations were not unusual and that the system was now stabilising after pandemic-era relaxations. Meanwhile, technical teams from IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, and PSU banks have been brought in to resolve glitches on the re-evaluation portal. CBSE recorded an overall Class 12 pass percentage of 85.20% this year, the lowest since 2019.
