The IMD has forecast strong winds, dust storms and light rain in Delhi-NCR even as severe heatwave conditions continue during the initial days of Nautapa.
May 25, 2026: Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden change in weather ahead of the onset of Nautapa, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert across the region. The weather office has predicted strong winds, dust storms and light rainfall over the next few days, which may provide temporary relief from the intense summer heat. On Monday, the maximum temperature remained around 44 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was close to 30 degrees Celsius. Parts of the city also witnessed light drizzle and cloudy skies.
According to the IMD forecast, severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue from May 25 to May 27. Wind speeds during this period may reach up to 50 kmph, while hot winds are likely to affect residents during afternoon and evening hours. Similar weather conditions are expected on May 26 and May 27, with temperatures remaining around 44 degrees Celsius despite occasional cloud cover and light showers.
Relief is likely from May 28 onwards as temperatures are expected to decline gradually. The maximum temperature may drop to nearly 42 degrees Celsius initially and further fall to around 36 degrees Celsius by May 29 and 30. Light rainfall and cloudy conditions are expected to continue during this period. Weather experts believe scattered showers and gusty winds may prevent temperatures from crossing 46 degrees Celsius during Nautapa, though humid conditions may continue to trouble residents.
