Rains Bring Relief to Some Areas in Delhi; IMD Issues Yellow Alert, Warns of More Showers

Thunderstorms with heavy rain and winds up to 60 km/h expected in Delhi-NCR and neighboring regions, says IMD

New Delhi | June 28, 2025:
Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi on Saturday, offering much-needed relief from the heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–60 km/h, for the next few hours across Delhi-NCR.

Areas already affected include IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, Hauz Khas, Mehrauli, and Tughlakabad. Similar conditions are expected to persist through Sunday.

The IMD alert includes numerous localities in Delhi and the National Capital Region:

In Delhi:

  • Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport
  • Vasant Kunj, Kalkaji, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, Deramandi
  • Safdarjung, India Gate, Rajiv Chowk, ITO, Patel Nagar, Nehru Stadium

In NCR:

  • Gurugram, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh

  • Uttar Pradesh: Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Bulandshahr, Firozabad
  • Rajasthan: Bharatpur, Alwar, Dholpur, Bhiwadi, Deeg

IMD has also forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning (30–50 km/h winds) in other city zones including Rajouri Garden, RK Puram, Akshardham, and Lajpat Nagar.
