Senior Congress leaders met in New Delhi to address internal differences in the Punjab unit

July 16, 2026: A crucial meeting of senior Punjab Congress leaders is underway at the party headquarters as the leadership attempts to resolve growing internal differences within the state unit. The meeting is being chaired by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal and includes several senior leaders who have expressed concerns over the party’s organisational functioning ahead of future elections.

According to sources, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi told the party leadership that Punjab Congress chief Raja Warring has been unable to keep all leaders united. Channi reportedly said that retaining Warring as the state president during the elections could make it more difficult for the Congress to present a united front. He stressed that his priority was to ensure the party’s electoral success.

The meeting is also being attended by Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rana Gurjeet Singh, and Pargat Singh, with senior leaders sharing their views on the ongoing organisational issues. The Congress leadership is expected to explore ways to address the internal discord and strengthen the Punjab unit before upcoming political challenges.
