Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Lucknow fire accident site and KGMU Hospital

June 23, 2026: Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh on Tuesday visited the site of the devastating fire in Lucknow and later met injured victims undergoing treatment at KGMU Hospital. Expressing deep grief over the loss of lives, including several children, he reviewed the medical arrangements and interacted with doctors attending to the survivors. Rajnath assured that the Uttar Pradesh government would conduct a detailed investigation to determine the causes of the tragedy and fix accountability wherever necessary.

The incident has raised serious concerns about alleged commercial activities operating inside a residential area and possible violations of fire safety regulations. Questions are also being asked about fire clearance permissions and compliance with mandatory safety norms. Lucknow North MLA Neeraj Bora stated that strict action would be taken against those found responsible and emphasized that proper adherence to safety standards could have helped prevent the disaster.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as flames rapidly spread through the building. Several children reportedly attempted to escape by climbing down using a thick cable, while others were unable to reach safety in time. The tragedy has renewed demands for stronger enforcement of building safety regulations and regular inspections of establishments operating in densely populated residential areas. Authorities have launched a high-level probe as scrutiny grows over possible lapses in safety measures and emergency preparedness.
