Rekha Gupta hits out at Arvind Kejriwal over his refusal to appear before a Delhi High Court judge in the excise policy case.
April 27, 2026: Rekha Gupta on Monday strongly criticised Arvind Kejriwal for his “satyagraha” stance against Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, who is hearing a case linked to the excise policy probe. Calling his move a “poor joke,” Gupta questioned Kejriwal’s remarks against the judiciary and asked whether such accusations were appropriate.
The controversy stems from Kejriwal’s letter to the judge, where he stated he would not appear in court—either personally or through a lawyer—after his plea seeking her recusal was rejected by the Delhi High Court. He described his decision as a form of protest inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of satyagraha, claiming a loss of faith in receiving justice.
Justice Sharma, however, dismissed the recusal request, stating that mere apprehension of bias is not sufficient grounds for a judge to step aside. The case is part of a review petition by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the liquor policy matter. The political confrontation has intensified, with sharp exchanges between leaders adding to the ongoing legal and political battle.
