Delhi Chief Minister criticises AAP leader after his plea seeking recusal of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma in excise policy case

April 14, 2026: Rekha Gupta on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal following his court appearance in the Delhi excise policy case. Taking a swipe, she remarked that Kejriwal has “become a lawyer these days,” questioning his criticism of the judiciary. Gupta accused him of undermining democratic institutions and said that while he praises systems when decisions favour him, he raises doubts when they do not.

Her remarks came a day after Kejriwal personally argued in court, seeking the recusal of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma from hearing the CBI’s appeal. Kejriwal claimed he had a “reasonable apprehension” of not receiving a fair hearing and alleged that he was “almost declared guilty” in earlier proceedings. He also pointed to the judge’s attendance at events linked to an RSS-affiliated organisation, questioning her neutrality.

During the hearing, Justice Sharma responded by asking whether she had made any political or ideological statements, while also noting that Kejriwal had argued his case effectively. She even remarked that he had the potential to become a lawyer. The court has reserved its order on the recusal plea, with the case drawing significant political attention amid ongoing tensions between the ruling establishment and opposition leaders.
