The recovery of empty liquor bottles near Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s official residence has sparked fresh political controversy
May 22, 2026: A political controversy broke out in Bihar on Friday after empty foreign liquor bottles were reportedly found near Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s official residence in Patna. According to reports, the bottles were recovered around 100 metres from the high-security residence located at 5 Desh Ratna Marg, following which police officials rushed to the area and launched an investigation.
The incident triggered sharp political reactions, especially from the Rashtriya Janata Dal. Party leader Rohini Acharya questioned how liquor bottles could appear near the chief minister’s residence despite Bihar’s strict prohibition law. She alleged that illegal liquor traders seemed to enjoy influence even in highly secured government zones and criticised the state government over the implementation of the liquor ban.
Rohini Acharya also referred to earlier instances where liquor bottles were allegedly recovered from the Bihar Assembly premises and government office areas. She accused the government of failing to effectively enforce prohibition and claimed the latest incident had strengthened public perception that illegal liquor networks continued to operate freely in the state. Police have not yet released detailed information regarding the recovery or identified any suspects connected to the incident.
