Railway Protection Force flags rising accidents in Thiruvananthapuram, urges passengers to avoid unsafe practices.

May 5, 2026: The Railway Protection Force in Thiruvananthapuram has issued a public safety advisory following a surge in incidents of passengers falling from trains. Officials said at least 37 such cases have been reported in 2026 so far, with several leading to serious injuries and fatalities.

Authorities noted that risky behaviours such as travelling on footboards, standing near coach entrances, and boarding or alighting from moving trains significantly increase the chances of accidents. Sudden jerks, curves, overcrowding, and loss of balance were cited as key reasons behind these incidents.

The RPF has urged passengers to move inside coaches after boarding, avoid leaning out of doors, and strictly refrain from unsafe travel practices. It also said awareness drives, announcements, and increased monitoring are being carried out to prevent such mishaps, emphasising that no journey is worth risking one’s life.
