The controversy intensified after Saayoni Ghosh denied claims linking her to a Kolkata property allegedly associated with Abhishek Banerjee
May 20, 2026: Trinamool Congress MP and youth wing chief Saayoni Ghosh on Wednesday rejected allegations linking her to a Kolkata property reportedly associated with TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee. Calling the claims “fake news,” Ghosh said her financial details were already publicly available through her election affidavit and warned that legal action would be taken against those spreading misinformation. In a strongly worded social media post, the actor-turned-politician said attempts were being made to defame her without evidence and asserted that she would not be intimidated.
The controversy comes a day after Ghosh alleged that she received an “open death threat” from BJP leader and Sikandrabad Nagar Palika chairman Pradeep Dixit. According to videos circulated online, Dixit allegedly announced a ₹1 crore reward for anyone who would “behead” the TMC MP. Ghosh condemned the remarks and tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla while demanding immediate action. She also questioned the BJP’s commitment to women’s safety and urged Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal Police to take strict legal action.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of running a politically motivated smear campaign by allegedly circulating Kolkata Municipal Corporation notices linked to properties associated with Abhishek Banerjee and other party leaders. The row escalated after BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Banerjee and his family controlled multiple properties through a company named Leaps and Bounds Private Limited. Civic officials stated that notices were issued over alleged unauthorised construction under the KMC Act. Responding to the allegations, Banerjee said he would continue his political fight against the BJP and would not be intimidated by such actions.
