The former Shiv Sena (UBT) leader filed his nomination as the Mahayuti candidate, adding to the opposition camp’s recent political setbacks.

June 30, 2026: Shiv Sena (UBT) suffered another political setback on Tuesday after senior leader Sachin Ahir filed his nomination for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on behalf of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. Ahir, considered a close associate of Aaditya Thackeray, submitted his nomination as the Mahayuti alliance candidate.

The nomination was filed in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. The development comes just days after six Members of Parliament left the Uddhav Thackeray-led party to join the ruling Shinde-led Shiv Sena, further weakening the opposition camp.

Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has fielded Jagannath Abhyan for the Deputy Chairman’s post. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve confirmed Abhyan’s candidature, setting the stage for a contest in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
