The security cover of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs has been strengthened amid growing speculation about a possible split
June 18, 2026: Amid increasing speculation over a possible rebellion within Shiv Sena (UBT), the security arrangements for six MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction have been upgraded. According to an official communication, the Union Home Ministry directed Maharashtra Police to provide the lawmakers with local security equivalent to the Y+ category with immediate effect, citing potential security concerns.
The order instructed district police and intelligence units across Maharashtra to assess local conditions and ensure adequate protection for the MPs. Authorities have also been asked to conduct periodic threat assessments and decide whether the level of security should be maintained, enhanced or reduced based on the situation. Additional precautions have been recommended during public appearances and constituency visits.
The MPs named in the security order are Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar, Omraje Nimbalkar and Bhausaheb Waghchaure. The move comes amid reports that several Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs are in contact with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, fuelling speculation of a possible split. Meanwhile, party workers have staged protests against the reported rebellion, adding to the political tension in Maharashtra.
