Van carrying women to a function was hit by a speeding bus on NH-48 in Sabarkantha, several injured

April 29, 2026: At least six women were killed and eight others injured after a private bus rammed into a van on a highway in Sabarkantha on Wednesday, police said. The accident took place on National Highway 48 connecting Shamlaji to Himmatnagar, when the speeding bus hit the van from behind, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Patel.

The van was carrying women from Modasa who were part of a catering team travelling to attend a function in Hunj village near Himmatnagar. Officials confirmed that six women passengers died on the spot, while others sustained injuries in the collision.

The injured, including six women, a man, and the driver, were taken to the Himmatnagar civil hospital for treatment. Doctors said two of the injured are in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
