Opposition parties BJP and BRS have demanded accountability after Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s comments
June 7, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has found himself at the centre of a political controversy after remarks he made about the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) during an event in Bengaluru. While explaining the origin of the agency’s name, Reddy said he had drawn inspiration from a term he associated with Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and his inner circle. The comments immediately drew sharp criticism from opposition parties, which accused the Chief Minister of making inappropriate references to one of history’s most infamous figures.
The BJP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) strongly condemned the remarks. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy alleged that the comments reflected a “Hitler mindset” and demanded an unconditional apology from the Chief Minister. The BRS also intensified its criticism, branding Revanth Reddy as the “new Hitler” and linking the controversy to HYDRAA’s demolition drives, which the party claims have affected numerous residents across Telangana.
HYDRAA was established by the Telangana government in July 2024 to protect lakes, water bodies and public assets from encroachments and illegal constructions. Since then, the agency has carried out several anti-encroachment operations across Hyderabad. With opposition parties escalating their attacks, the controversy is expected to fuel further political confrontation in the state in the coming days.
