The Telangana High Court granted regular bail to Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in a POCSO case, subject to conditions.

July 9, 2026: The Telangana High Court on Thursday granted regular bail to Bandi Bhagirath in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to ANI, the court directed him to furnish a bond of ₹1 lakh with two sureties and comply with other conditions. Bhagirath is the son of Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The order follows an earlier decision by a special POCSO court in Malkajgiri, which had granted him interim bail for seven days last month to enable him to appear for his final examinations.

The case stems from an FIR registered on May 8 at the Petbasheerabad Police Station in Telangana. Bhagirath has been booked under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to outraging modesty and sexual harassment, along with Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Bhagirath allegedly entered into a relationship with her 17-year-old daughter on the promise of marriage and subjected her to inappropriate physical acts and pressure to consume alcohol between October 2025 and January 2026.

The FIR further states that after the relationship ended on January 7, the minor allegedly attempted self-harm twice later that month. Bhagirath has denied the allegations, claiming the POCSO case was filed as a “counterblast” to a complaint he lodged against the girl’s family at the Karimnagar-II Town Police Station. In his complaint, he alleged that the girl’s parents attempted to extort ₹5 crore from him by threatening that their daughter would die by suicide if the money was not paid.
