May 26, 2026: A major theft has been reported from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) residential complex in North Delhi, triggering concerns over security inside one of the city’s sensitive government housing zones. The incident took place in the Timarpur area, where burglars allegedly broke into the residence of a woman scientist and stole valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

According to police sources, the scientist had travelled to Chandigarh to visit her daughter when the theft occurred. On May 23, neighbours informed her after noticing that the main door of the house appeared damaged and partially open. The family rushed back to Delhi and found the house ransacked, with jewellery, cash, foreign currency and expensive watches missing.

Police said the stolen items included Rs 15,000 in cash, foreign currency, gold jewellery such as necklaces, rings, bangles and chains, along with silver ornaments and premium wristwatches. The estimated value of the stolen property is around Rs 45–50 lakh. Investigators said the burglars broke multiple locks and forced open an almirah before escaping. A case has been registered, forensic evidence has been collected and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined.
