Trinamool Congress MLA Dilip Mondal was detained by the West Bengal Police STF from a hotel in Puri following a case linked to a viral video controversy.

May 27, 2026: Dilip Mondal, a close aide of Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MLA from Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas, has been detained by the West Bengal Police from a hotel in Puri. According to officials, the Special Task Force (STF) is bringing the MLA to Kolkata on transit remand as part of an ongoing investigation.

The action follows controversy surrounding a viral video allegedly featuring Mondal. While the authenticity of the clip has not been independently verified, it reportedly showed the MLA threatening workers and supporters of another political party. A police complaint was later filed against him, following which authorities registered a case under non-bailable sections and launched an investigation. Police teams had earlier raided his residence on May 14, but he was not found there.

According to officials, Mondal had allegedly been absconding after learning about the police operation. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, STF personnel along with Diamond Harbour Police traced him to a hotel in Puri and detained him. Earlier, police had also arrested five people, including Mondal’s son Arghya Mondal, who was allegedly found with weapons and accused of creating unrest in the area during a separate operation near the Bakkhali-Fraserganj coastal belt.
