Former JNU student leader Umar Khalid has approached the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy
May 21, 2026: Umar Khalid has approached the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case. The plea comes days after a Delhi court rejected his request for temporary relief.
Khalid has sought 15 days of interim bail to attend the Chehlum ceremony of his late uncle and to visit his mother, who is reportedly scheduled to undergo surgery. His legal team argued that the request was based on humanitarian grounds.
Khalid has been in custody in the Delhi riots conspiracy case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The case relates to allegations of a larger conspiracy behind the communal violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020.
