The Basic Education Department has directed districts to verify book supply and payment records under the Samagra Shiksha

June 1, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a district-wise verification exercise to review the supply and payment records of books procured for libraries in selected council-run schools under the Samagra Shiksha and PM SHRI schemes. The initiative covers the financial year 2025-26 and aims to ensure that books approved under the schemes have been distributed and paid for according to official records.

The Basic Education Department has issued detailed instructions to all districts, directing officials to submit certified information in a prescribed format. District Basic Education Officers (BSAs) have been asked to cross-check data provided by publishers and suppliers with records maintained at the district level. The verified information will then be sent to the state government for further examination.

Officials said the exercise is intended to track book distribution, monitor payment status and identify any discrepancies. The findings will support a state-level assessment of library-related provisions under both education schemes and help improve resource management, transparency and monitoring of future procurements aimed at strengthening reading facilities in government schools.
