RJD leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav have reportedly given up their government-provided security cover

June 7, 2026: In a major political development in Bihar, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav have reportedly relinquished their government-provided security cover. According to party leaders, the security personnel assigned to protect the three leaders have been sent back, marking a significant move amid an ongoing debate over security arrangements for opposition leaders in the state.

Following the withdrawal of official security, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers gathered outside Rabri Devi’s residence and assumed responsibility for the family’s protection. Large numbers of supporters were seen stationed at the premises, with many carrying sticks and wearing traditional gamchas. Party workers said they were prepared to safeguard the residence themselves and remain on duty as long as required.

Reacting to the development, RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal said security arrangements are periodically reviewed and revised based on official assessments. However, he suggested that any reduction in security should be handled respectfully and without creating unnecessary controversy. Mandal also indicated that the party may discuss whether other RJD legislators and MPs should consider similar steps in the future.
