July 18, 2026: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by a man in Maharashtra’s Nashik, with the accused later found hanging from a tree in what police suspect is a case of murder-suicide. According to investigators, Sahil Ashok Lavare (26) allegedly attacked Vaishnavi Avare near a temple in the Indiranagar area late on Friday night before dying by suicide a few hours later at a nearby jogging track.

Police said the accused allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times and slit her throat with a knife. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing her screams, but the accused managed to flee before they could intervene. Vaishnavi, a student who was staying as a paying guest in the area, died at the scene. Around 3 am, police recovered the accused’s body hanging from a tree in the same locality.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim and the accused had met earlier on Friday evening, and police suspect the attack may have been linked to a one-sided love affair. A murder case has been registered, and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to establish the exact motive.
