Weeks after a political debate over whether a passport constitutes proof of Indian citizenship, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that a passport is primarily a travel document issued to regulate the departure of Indian citizens from the country.
India has reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism and transnational organised crime following the recent US federal indictment of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who has been accused of orchestrating several criminal activities, including the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.
