India has firmly rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint EU-Pakistan statement

June 2, 2026: India has strongly objected to references made to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint press communique issued after the 8th round of the European Union-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India categorically rejects such remarks and asserted that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of the country.

He reiterated that any entity with no “locus standi” in the matter should refrain from commenting on India’s internal affairs. The communique had stated that Pakistan briefed the EU delegation on Jammu and Kashmir, while the EU side discussed developments related to Ukraine. India, however, maintained that such references are unwarranted and unacceptable.

Jaiswal also referred to previous instances, including a joint statement by Pakistan and China, where similar references were dismissed. He said India opposes any attempt to legitimise Pakistan’s position over territories linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), calling it a violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reaffirmed that India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir remains consistent and unchanged.
