Actor Akanksha Chamola has revealed that differing views on having children played a major role in her separation from husband Gaurav Khanna. Speaking on Netflix’s Lock Upp, the actress shared that her decision to remain child-free eventually created differences in their marriage.
Akanksha, who recently confirmed that she and Gaurav are heading for divorce, clarified that they continue to share an amicable relationship despite their separation.
During a conversation with fellow contestants Shreya Kalra and Sufi Motiwala, Akanksha explained that she never truly developed a maternal instinct. While she initially remained open to the possibility of motherhood, she eventually realised that she did not want to have children.
The actress shared that Gaurav had initially respected her decision. However, over time, his desire to become a father grew stronger, leading to a difference in life goals.
According to Akanksha, watching her husband want something she knew she could never give him became emotionally difficult. She said many people enter marriage with the hope of building a family, and she did not want to stand in the way of his dreams.
Akanksha also revealed that she had openly discussed the issue with Gaurav and told him he was free to leave the marriage if fatherhood was important to him. She believed it would be a fair decision if their differing expectations about parenthood became a deal-breaker.
Reflecting on their journey, the actress said that after Gaurav’s stint on Bigg Boss, she realised even more strongly how much he wanted children, while she remained certain about choosing a child-free life.
Akanksha concluded by saying that remaining child-free aligns with the life she wants for herself, adding that she values her sense of independence and personal freedom.
