Fresh explosions were reported across the Strait of Hormuz region on Tuesday, further escalating tensions in West Asia just hours after US officials announced what they described as “powerful” strikes on Iran.

According to Iranian state media, a series of blasts were heard in several strategically important locations near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest energy shipping routes.

State broadcaster IRIB reported that six explosions were heard on Iran’s Qeshm Island, while seven more were reported in the coastal city of Sirik. Additional blasts were also heard in the major port city of Bandar Abbas, though authorities did not immediately provide details on the cause of the explosions or any casualties.

Iran Warns US of ‘Decisive Measures’

In response to the latest developments, Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a strong warning, accusing the United States of repeatedly violating a memorandum of understanding intended to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East.

The ministry also pointed to what it described as continued aggression in Lebanon and other regional threats, saying Washington had failed to uphold its commitments.

“Iran is issuing a serious warning about the consequences of America’s breach of the treaty, and will take decisive measures to protect its interests and national security,” the ministry said in a statement posted on Telegram by IRIB News.

The statement signalled that Tehran could respond to the latest US actions, raising concerns of a broader regional confrontation.

US Revokes Iran Oil Waiver Following Tanker Attacks

The escalation came as the United States revoked a temporary sanctions waiver related to Iranian oil exports after three commercial tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.

The move increases economic pressure on Tehran at a time when negotiations between the two countries over ending the ongoing Middle East conflict remain fragile.

US officials linked the decision to the latest security incidents in one of the world’s most critical maritime trade corridors.

Three Tankers Attacked Near Oman

The British maritime security agency UKMTO reported that an “unknown projectile” struck a tanker overnight, triggering a fire onboard.

Later, two more commercial vessels were reportedly hit in the same region, with at least one believed to have been struck by a drone.

All three incidents occurred close to the coast of Oman, where authorities had recently proposed a temporary shipping corridor designed to improve the safety of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has opposed the proposal, arguing that ships using the strategic waterway should instead pay transit fees under its preferred framework.

Strategic Waterway Remains Under Spotlight

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints, handling a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

The latest explosions, tanker attacks, and heightened military activity have renewed concerns over maritime security in the region, with markets closely monitoring developments for any potential disruption to global energy supplies.
