The long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) may not carry the record-breaking price tag many fans feared. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, recently indicated that the game is likely to follow the current industry pricing model instead of crossing into the $100 range.

GTA VI, developed by Rockstar Games, is now scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, after multiple delays. Industry speculation had suggested the game might be priced as high as $100 to recover its rumoured $1 billion production cost, but recent comments suggest that may not happen.

CEO Hints At Standard AAA Price Range

Speaking at the Interactive Innovation Conference, Zelnick did not confirm an exact price but strongly hinted that GTA VI would remain within the typical $70–$80 price bracket followed by most modern AAA titles.

He explained that pricing decisions depend on delivering value to players rather than maximising short-term revenue.

According to Zelnick, consumers judge purchases based on the balance between product quality and price. He noted that the company aims to ensure buyers feel the game offers exceptional value for money.

“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way, way, way less than the value delivery,” Zelnick said in remarks reported by IGN.

He added that the perception of fairness in pricing plays a crucial role in customer satisfaction, stressing that players should feel both impressed by the game and comfortable with what they paid.

Why $100 Pricing Speculation Started

Rumours about a possible $100 price tag for GTA VI emerged largely because of reports suggesting the game’s production budget could reach $1 billion, making it one of the most expensive video games ever developed.

However, Zelnick pointed out that video game pricing has remained relatively stable over the years. Despite rising development costs, most major titles have stayed within the $60–$70 price range for more than a decade, with newer titles gradually shifting toward $70–$80.

He suggested that focusing purely on inflation or development costs does not reflect how publishers actually decide pricing strategies.

Instead, the company prioritises delivering an experience that players consider worth the money.

GTA VI Release Timeline: From 2025 To Late 2026

Originally, Grand Theft Auto VI was expected to release in Fall 2025, but the timeline has changed several times.

In May 2025, Rockstar Games postponed the release to May 26, 2026, citing the need for additional development time. Later in November 2025, the studio pushed the release back again by six months, finalising the new launch date as November 19, 2026.

At the time of the announcement, Rockstar apologised to fans for the extended wait, explaining that the extra development period would allow the team to polish the game to the high standards players expect from the franchise.

GTA VI Expected To Be One Of The Biggest Gaming Launches Ever

Even with delays, excitement surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI remains extremely high. The game is widely expected to become one of the biggest entertainment releases of the decade, both in terms of sales and cultural impact.

The pricing confirmation—while still unofficial—may come as relief to fans who were worried about a dramatic jump in costs. If the final price falls within the typical AAA range, it would keep the title accessible to a wider audience while still reflecting its blockbuster scale.
