Mohammed Shami has impressed not only with his bowling but also with his leadership qualities, according to Tom Moody, Global Cricket Director of Lucknow Super Giants.

Speaking ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Moody said Shami’s experience and cricketing wisdom have been invaluable to the team’s bowling unit.

The veteran pacer has taken four wickets in as many matches this season, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 6.2, underlining his control and effectiveness in crucial phases of the game.

‘He Brings Wisdom And Leadership,’ Says Moody

Moody described Shami as a world-class bowler who continues to remain a major threat, particularly with the new ball.

He highlighted the pacer’s ability to swing the ball both ways and create early breakthroughs in the powerplay — a skill that remains central to LSG’s bowling strategy.

Beyond his technical ability, Moody emphasised Shami’s influence as a senior figure in the squad.

He said the pacer brings valuable leadership qualities to the team, helping guide younger bowlers and maintaining stability within the attack.

Moody also credited Shami’s fitness and durability, noting that the fast bowler continues to clock speeds in the high 130 kmph range, maintaining the intensity that has defined his career.

Moody Backs Nicholas Pooran Despite Slow Start

While praising the bowling unit, Moody also addressed the underwhelming form of Nicholas Pooran, who has scored just 41 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 85 so far this season.

Moody said the team remains fully confident in Pooran’s abilities and believes he will soon rediscover his form.

He added that experienced players often go through lean patches, but class ultimately prevails. According to Moody, an upcoming match at a batting-friendly venue could provide the perfect opportunity for Pooran to bounce back strongly.

Positive Injury Updates On Mayank Yadav And Mohsin Khan

Moody also shared encouraging updates on injured pacers Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan.

Both bowlers have been recovering from long-term injuries, with the team’s medical staff working extensively to prepare them for a return.

Mohsin is expected to undergo a final fitness test to determine his availability for selection. Meanwhile, Mayank is now considered ready for competitive action after gradually building up his bowling workload.

Moody explained that Mayank was not included earlier in the tournament because he required additional preparation to handle match intensity, but the team now believes he is fit enough to return.

Despite these injury setbacks, Moody noted that LSG’s bowling unit has performed consistently well so far. However, he admitted that the batting department needs to deliver stronger performances to support the bowlers.

Rasikh Salam Dar Focuses On Learning From Senior Players

Meanwhile, Rasikh Salam Dar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru said he has used his time away from the playing XI to improve his skills.

He explained that maintaining a consistent training routine helped him stay prepared for match situations, even during periods without game time.

Dar also acknowledged the influence of senior teammate Josh Hazlewood, describing him as a key figure in the squad and a valuable source of learning.

He added that his primary focus remains contributing to the team whenever opportunities arise.
