Ukrainian drones targeted key energy and military facilities in St Petersburg as Russia hosted its flagship economic forum
June 3, 2026: Ukrainian drones struck several energy and military targets in Saint Petersburg on Wednesday, damaging infrastructure on the outskirts of Russia’s second-largest city. Regional Governor Alexander Beglov confirmed that multiple facilities were hit, although authorities reported no fatalities. Witnesses quoted by Reuters said thick smoke was seen rising over parts of the city following the attacks.
Ukrainian officials said the operation was intended to disrupt the high-profile economic forum often referred to as “Russia’s Davos,” which is expected to be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and international political figures. The forum is one of Russia’s most important economic events and serves as a platform for discussions on trade, investment and global affairs.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the drones successfully struck the Saint Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Kronstadt military base. Describing the attacks as part of Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” strategy, Zelenskyy said Kyiv would continue targeting Russian energy and military infrastructure to increase pressure on Moscow and move closer to ending the conflict.
