Petrol Prices Cross ₹112 In India’s Costliest Cities After Fresh Fuel Hike

Fuel prices across India witnessed another sharp increase on May 23, with petrol and diesel rates rising by nearly ₹1 per litre in several major cities. Hyderabad emerged as the most expensive metro for both petrol and diesel, with petrol crossing ₹112 per litre.

Hyderabad Tops Fuel Price Chart

Petrol in Hyderabad climbed to ₹112.81 per litre after a 97-paise hike, making it the costliest among major Indian cities. Diesel prices in the city also surged to ₹100.94 per litre following a 99-paise increase.

Thiruvananthapuram followed closely, with petrol priced at ₹112.64 per litre and diesel touching ₹101.55 per litre.

Other expensive cities included Kolkata and Patna, where petrol prices remained above ₹110 per litre.

Cheapest Cities For Petrol And Diesel

Chandigarh continued to offer the lowest fuel prices among major cities despite the latest revision. Petrol there stood at ₹98.97 per litre, while diesel was priced at ₹86.94 per litre.

New Delhi recorded petrol prices of ₹99.51 per litre and diesel at ₹92.49 per litre. Nearby Noida also saw petrol retailing at ₹99.51 per litre.

Major Fuel Prices Across Cities

Mumbai saw petrol prices rise to ₹108.49 per litre, while diesel reached ₹95.02 per litre.

In Bengaluru, petrol was priced at ₹108.09 per litre and diesel at ₹95.99 per litre.

Jaipur recorded petrol prices of ₹109.84 per litre, while diesel touched ₹95.05 per litre.

Why Fuel Prices Differ Across India

Fuel prices vary across states due to differences in VAT rates, transportation expenses, dealer commissions and local taxes. The latest hike comes amid elevated global crude oil prices and pressure on the rupee in international markets.

Analysts say geopolitical tensions and supply concerns in global oil markets continue to influence domestic fuel pricing trends.
