Speculation over internal divisions within the Trinamool Congress has intensified as Mamata Banerjee

June 2, 2026: Political uncertainty has deepened in West Bengal as fresh questions emerge over the unity of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). The developments come at a time when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is preparing to lead a public protest against alleged attacks on TMC MPs, leaders and workers. At the same time, reports of dissatisfaction within sections of the party have sparked speculation about possible internal tensions.

According to reports, several TMC legislators have recently met expelled party MLAs Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha, who were removed from the party following a controversy related to disputed signatures. These meetings have fueled political discussions about potential divisions within the party. Adding to the speculation, reports also indicate that a number of legislators were absent from a recent meeting convened by Mamata Banerjee, although no formal rebellion or split has been announced.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee is expected to proceed with a major protest in Kolkata, alleging attacks on TMC leaders and workers. The Chief Minister has stated that she may stage a sit-in if prevented from reaching the designated venue. Security arrangements have been tightened across key parts of the city ahead of the demonstration. Political observers are closely watching whether the party leadership can maintain unity as the political atmosphere in the state continues to grow increasingly tense.
