Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has criticised the BJP after rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh met senior party leader Tarun Chugh to discuss Punjab’s growing drug crisis. Jassi questioned the decision to involve Honey Singh in an anti-drug awareness initiative, referring to the rapper’s past struggles with substance abuse.
Jasbir Jassi Questions BJP’s Decision
Sharing a video on social media, Jasbir Jassi strongly reacted to reports that Honey Singh could be associated with an anti-drug campaign in Punjab. Using a sharp metaphor, Jassi remarked that the BJP was “making the cat guard the milk.”
In his video, the singer stated that he usually avoids political discussions but decided to speak out because the issue directly concerns Punjab and its future.
‘Are You Trying To Save Punjab Or Provoke It?’
Jassi criticised the reported move by the BJP and questioned whether the party genuinely understands Punjab’s culture and emotional sensitivities. He suggested that people from outside the state often fail to fully understand Punjab’s identity and traditions.
Calling Punjab a “treasure,” the singer emphasised that the state’s cultural roots should not be commercialised or misunderstood.
He also claimed that Honey Singh had once contributed to the drug culture narrative in Punjab through music and public influence, making his involvement in an anti-drug campaign controversial in the eyes of many people.
Jassi Says He Could Not Stay Silent
Towards the end of his video, Jasbir Jassi admitted that speaking openly on the matter could personally affect him, but maintained that he could not remain silent when Punjab’s issues were involved.
He also recalled previously discussing Punjab-related concerns with Tarun Chugh during past interactions.
Why Honey Singh Met Tarun Chugh
Yo Yo Honey Singh recently met Tarun Chugh to discuss ways to spread awareness against drug abuse among Punjab’s youth. During the meeting, the rapper reportedly spoke about the devastating impact of drugs on families and young people in the state.
Honey Singh, who has publicly spoken about his own past battle with addiction, stated that Punjab must be protected from the growing “chitta” drug problem.
Tarun Chugh praised Honey Singh’s comeback journey and encouraged him to use his music and influence to motivate young people to stay away from drugs.
