Actor and reality TV star Prince Narula has opened up about one of the toughest phases of his life, revealing that he struggled with severe anxiety, panic attacks and sleepless nights. Speaking on Double Date with Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, Prince shared that he did not sleep properly for nearly six months because he feared he would never wake up again.
His wife, Yuvika Chaudhary, also spoke about the emotional journey, explaining how the illness affected their family and how she supported him during his recovery.
Prince Says He Once Didn’t Believe Anxiety Was Real
Prince admitted that he never understood mental health issues while growing up in a village in Punjab.
He said he used to dismiss anxiety and depression because he believed people simply needed to enjoy life. However, his perspective changed completely after he experienced anxiety himself.
“I come from a village in Punjab where people didn’t even know what anxiety meant. I used to make fun of people who said they had anxiety or depression. I’d tell them, ‘What’s wrong with you? Go out and enjoy life.’ But I want people to know today that it’s real.”
He said his experience taught him that mental health conditions can affect anyone, regardless of their background.
Panic Attacks Changed His Daily Life
According to Prince, his anxiety gradually became more severe and started affecting his everyday routine.
He revealed that he suffered from panic attacks and heart palpitations. At times, he found it impossible to stay in public places.
“I started getting palpitations and panic attacks. Sometimes I’d leave my car in the middle of the road and walk away. I’d be watching a movie with friends and suddenly run out because I couldn’t handle it.”
Eventually, he stopped working, avoided meeting people and isolated himself from others.
“For six months, I didn’t sleep at night. I became scared of the night itself. I stopped working, stopped meeting people and shut myself away from everyone.”
Fear of Sleeping Became Overwhelming
Prince shared that one of the most frightening parts of his anxiety was his fear of falling asleep.
He believed that if he slept, he might not wake up the next morning.
“I thought that if I slept, I wouldn’t wake up the next morning. That’s why I avoided sleeping. I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my daughter. I convinced myself that I had every illness imaginable.”
He also revealed that the stress affected his physical health.
According to Prince, he developed high cholesterol, experienced liver fatigue and dealt with several other health issues. At one point, he was taking 18 tablets a day as part of his treatment.
Anxiety Came Without Any Clear Reason
Prince said the most confusing part of his experience was that there was no obvious reason behind his anxiety.
He explained that people often assume anxiety is linked to financial problems or relationship issues. However, that was not the case for him.
“People think anxiety only comes when you’re struggling financially or when your relationship is falling apart. That wasn’t the case with me. I was financially stable and my relationship was strong. Everything was going well, yet I couldn’t understand what I was trapped in.”
He also revealed that the illness caused him to lose nearly 20 kilograms.
Prince Dismisses Divorce Rumours
During the conversation, Prince addressed speculation about his marriage with Yuvika Chaudhary.
He said that despite the difficult period, their relationship remained strong and divorce was never an option.
“We knew how much we loved each other. Divorce was never really a thought. I fight with my parents and siblings too, but I don’t leave them. So how could I leave my wife? I love her too much.”
Yuvika Chaudhary Recalls the Difficult Phase
Yuvika also shared how challenging the period was for the family.
She recalled receiving a message from Prince while he was staying in Chandigarh.
“He had become so thin and his complexion had changed. One day he messaged me saying, ‘I’m in a very bad shape. I can’t take it anymore. I need you.’ The moment I read that message, I left for Chandigarh.”
According to Yuvika, Prince’s mother asked her to take charge because the family did not know how to handle the situation.
She said balancing the responsibilities of caring for Prince, their baby and the household became emotionally exhausting.
“It was very tough. I had to take care of him, our baby, the house and everything else. I literally begged people to guide me. He didn’t even know because he was fighting his own battle.”
Protecting Their Daughter Became Her Priority
Yuvika said her biggest concern was ensuring that their daughter was not affected by the difficult circumstances.
She explained that she tried to remain positive despite the emotional stress.
“The toughest part is making sure it doesn’t affect your child. You keep pretending that everything is okay, but that battle inside is incredibly difficult.”
She added that the experience taught her the importance of self-care and gratitude.
