Actor Shahid Kapoor has expressed surprise over his latest release Cocktail 2 receiving an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), stating that he is unable to understand the reasoning behind the adult rating. The film, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon, released in theatres on June 19.
Speaking about the certification, Shahid said he personally did not find anything objectionable in the film that would warrant an adult rating. The actor remarked that he is still trying to figure out why the CBFC classified it as ‘A’, adding that the story revolves around a love triangle that, in his opinion, can be watched by audiences across age groups.
He further stated that the film does not contain any content that should cause concern for viewers, emphasizing that it is a simple narrative about relationships and human emotions. Shahid added that he believes families could comfortably watch the film together, as it does not include any disturbing or explicit material.
The CBFC had cleared Cocktail 2 with an adult certification prior to its release, making it one of several A-rated films in Shahid Kapoor’s career, which includes titles such as Kaminey, Udta Punjab, Kabir Singh, and O’Romeo. Despite the rating, Shahid maintained that the film’s tone is emotional and relatable rather than controversial.
Directed by Homi Adajania and co-written by Luv Ranjan, Cocktail 2 serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 film Cocktail, which starred Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty. The new installment explores modern relationships and emotional complexities through a contemporary lens.
Meanwhile, early reviews of the film have been mixed. A critic noted that Kriti Sanon delivers a standout performance, describing her as the strongest element of the film, while also pointing out that the story suffers from predictability and lack of emotional depth.
