Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has expressed concern over the health condition of climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike. The actress shared a heartfelt message on social media, urging authorities to engage in dialogue and address the concerns raised by Wangchuk.
Wangchuk’s hunger strike, which entered its 17th day on Tuesday, July 14, has drawn attention from several public figures and supporters. The protest, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), is demanding action over alleged issues related to the NEET-UG question paper leak, including a call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Taking to Instagram, Zeenat Aman praised Wangchuk’s contributions to society and described him as a “brilliant and conscientious man.” She highlighted his achievements and global recognition for his work in education, innovation, and social impact, while appealing to the government to respond through peaceful discussions rather than remaining silent.
In her post, Zeenat emphasized the importance of democratic dialogue and said that society should not watch silently as one of the country’s respected minds suffers. She wrote that India has a long history of peaceful protests and that those in positions of responsibility must listen and engage with concerns raised by citizens.
The actress also shared her worries about Wangchuk’s deteriorating health, referring to reports that he had begun losing muscle mass and was experiencing significant physical discomfort during the fast. She expressed solidarity with him and extended her thoughts to everyone involved in the ongoing protest.
Zeenat also highlighted Wangchuk’s response to requests asking him to end his hunger strike. Quoting him, she shared that the focus should be on asking why the government has not initiated a dialogue rather than asking him to stop his protest.
Earlier, actor Omi Vaidya, known for portraying Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, also appealed to people to pay attention to Wangchuk’s health condition. He recalled how Wangchuk’s work inspired the character of Phunsukh Wangdu in the popular film and expressed concern over the activist’s declining health.
As concerns grow over Wangchuk’s condition, calls for communication and a peaceful resolution continue from supporters and public personalities across the country.
