Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Gujarat should now focus on becoming a leading service-sector

May 17, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Gujarat has already achieved major success in manufacturing, engineering and green energy, and must now emerge among the top three states in the service sector. Speaking at the inauguration of the Million Minds Tech Park in Ahmedabad, Shah said projects like these would help position Ahmedabad alongside leading technology centres such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Gurugram.

Shah said India is becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, semiconductors and cybersecurity, adding that the Centre is promoting high-skill industries and global capability centres. He said the ₹1,100 crore Million Minds Tech Park, spread across 65 acres, will provide workspace for 9,000 professionals in its first phase and is expected to generate more than 63,000 jobs over the next five years after full expansion.

During his two-day Gujarat visit, Shah also inaugurated the Innovation and Incubation Centre at National Institute of Design and urged the institute to expand into advanced fields like semiconductor and chip design. He stressed that India’s traditional design strengths and modern innovation must be commercially developed to create more opportunities for young designers and entrepreneurs.
